Fracas: From French fracas, from Italian fracasso, from fracassare, from Latin infra- + Italian cassare, from Latin quassare. A noisy disorderly quarrel, fight, brawl, disturbance or scrap.
This looks like an inside job. Who squealed?
BATTLE-ROYAL. A battle or bout at cudgels or fisty-cuffs, wherein more than two persons are engaged: perhaps from its resemblance, in that particular, to more serious engagements fought to settle royal disputes.
You'll get your battle royale next week, when we get to see that little mess up close. Guess who's right in the middle of it? :D
Is it a certain vampire?
Oddly, in old English history there seems to be many instances of police vs. soldier street fights. It's as if both occupations didn't always hire the best and brightest.
Orange eyes and thought-bubble? Just to differentiate between her and Baxt, or is she different some other way?
Just personality...and keeping the artitst's sanity! You get everything in the Bothare eyes from an orange so deep it's close to brown through shades of yellow and green to a clear butter yellow. As we progress in the story each character will have their own mental 'voice' denoted by color, for the sake of everyone's sanity.
The yellow eyes were something we decided on based on an evolutionary detail: to protect eyes in high light enviroments, you can either increase melanin, the protective coating in the cornea that gives people black eye color, or lutien, a yellow pigment layer over the back of the eye that protects against UV and gives hawks, snakes, and cats yellow eyes. Really, it was an evolutionary tossup that gave humans dark eyes rather than yellow eyes; we reversed the coin toss. Green happens when there's a little color in the cornea as well.
Happy new year!
Ooooh, cool! I'd seen almost all uniformly yellow so far, and some green. But thank you; this comment made me happy in a number of ways - from the scientific explanation for the eyes (I -had- been wondering about that!) to what I hope is a sign that there's a lot yet to come from this story. I've had the misfortune of latching on to a number of projects right as they end, and especially with a turning point like this, I'd been wondering whether this would be another of those unfortunate cases. So very glad to hear it might not be. And happy new year to you, as well!
:D oh don't worry, there's YEARS of story ahead :)
